Cinnamon Rolls, an easy to make family favourite made with shop bought Puff Pastry, filled with Gooey Cinnamon deliciousness! I cannot oversell these, this Cinnamon Roll recipe is that good!

I love the smell of Cinnamon rolls baking in the oven! It gives the house that wonderful festive feel. Fire lit, fairy lights, hot chocolate & Cinnamon rolls…heaven! Throw in a comfy armchair and a Christmas tree -I’m set for the day! And they couldn’t be easier to make, zero skill required. Just spread, roll, cut & bake! I try to make my baking as uncomplicated as possible, its all about loving the process, being proud of the results & finally, enjoying the treat!

What are Cinnamon Rolls ?

A Cinnamon Roll is basically a sweet roll, most popular in Northern Europe and North America. In Sweden it is called Kanelbulle, in Denmark it is known as Kanelsnegl, in Norway it is known as Kanelbolle. A Cinnamon Roll simply consists of a sheet of pastry, filled with a Sugar Cinnamon mix, it is then rolled, cut and baked. Producing the tell tale swirly Pastry we have all come to Love so much!

Who Invented The Cinnamon Roll?

Lets Start with the most important ingredient- Cinnamon. Early Roman Spice traders were the first to introduce the Sri Lankan spice Cinnamon to Europe. It was in Sweden many years later that they began using Cinnamon in Pastry’s developing the kanelbull (Cinnamon Bun)

How to Make Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients

  • Ready rolled puff pastry sheet
  • Brown sugar
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Melted unsalted butter
  • Salt
  • Beaten Egg
  • Icing sugar
  • Water

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 180°
  • Combine the brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, salt & melted butter in a large bowl
  • Gently evenly spread the cinnamon mix onto the pastry sheet, leaving a 1cm border all the way around.
  • Brush the border of the pastry sheet with beaten egg
  • Tightly roll up the pastry with the filling inside.. like a sleeping bag
  • Slice the roll into 8 separate pieces.

  • Lay swirl side up, each roll barely touching the other, bake in the centre of an oven for 10-15 minutes or until browned
  • Allow to cool. Then mix the icing sugar, with the water until you have a gloopy thick consistency. Then drizzle on the Cinnamon rolls

How to Store Cinnamon Rolls

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days
