Cinnamon Oil History
Cinnamon Oil has a long and Ancient History! The Egyptians were the first to recognise the benefits of Cinnamon Oil…
They used the essential oils extracted from the bark and leaves of cinnamon to embalm their dead! They held the belief that preserving the body of a recently passed person by giving it a life-like appearance would allow the deceased’s soul to exist for an eternity. This belief was the beginning of the development of the mummification process…
Cinnamon Oil And Mummification
Mummification was a lengthy and complicated process and could take up to 70 days to complete. Cinnamon oil was used by the Ancient Egyptians for its Larvicidal (a type of insecticide used to control pest invasion, killing larvae before it can reach adult stage) antifungal, antiviral and bactericidal properties. All these elements helped to preserve the deceased for their journey into the afterlife
The Egyptians would pummel the leaves and bark of cinnamon, macerate them in Salt water and finally distill the resulting mixture. The oil would then be applied to the body of the deceased along with ox fat and cedar oil to keep it supple.
